Outcome of the Special ONA Meeting

A special meeting of the Oceanside Neighborhood Association was held January 27 to discuss and adopt recommendations regarding the Green Crow application to expand its quarries in the area. In short, the community was supportive of the existing quaries being expanded, one site unconditionally and a second with some recommended conditions, however the “200 line” quarry (which has never been in commercial operation) was not supported. Over 100 Oceanside, Cape Meares and Netarts residents attended. The ONA quarum was met, the Letter to Tillamook County was adopted then transmitted following the meeting. ONA Meeting Minutes are also available.

Tillamook County Futures Council

In the category of I’m-still-finding-old-stuff-that’s-news-to-me, I recently discovered that our county has a Futures Council with a mission to create and maintain a county vision, with benchmarks. I spoke to Jennifer Purcell at the county who shared the web site with me and said, although they are in the process of doing some significant updating to the site, all the foundational documents are there (vision, surveys, benchmarks and so forth). Did you know that their vision and goals include growth and development, Natural Environment, Economy, and Society & Culture? In a process described as having involved over 1,000 county residents and land owners, their Big Book strategic vision document was created with a twenty year horizon.

Has anyone in Cape Meares, Oceanside or Netarts had any experience with the Council?

Green Crow Quarry Application

I’ve created a new page to support community reaction to the “this just in” application by Green Crow Corporation to (here’s the short version) expand its mining activities to include a new operation just outside Oceanside Village. The newest quarry requires a change to the current Tillamook County Comprehensive (Land Use) Plan (zone change). You’ll find the page “Mine Zone” includes a host of documents including the application itself and county and state rules.
